Warehouse Management Software – August 2020

Dear Members,

New Zealand Sugar have been operating since 1884 on the banks of the Waitemata Harbour in Auckland, producing refined sugar for the New Zealand market including the iconic Chelsea brand.

In recent years they have been working to upgrade their warehousing including automated shuttle racking systems. As the warehousing has modernised the need to be able to properly put away, pick and trace product has become more difficult and at the same time more necessary.

In this respect New Zealand Sugar are working to develop an in house warehouse product tracking system. It will need to link into the SAP Inventory system but without the complexity and expense of a full blown Warehouse Management System, as product is stored in block locations rather than individual pallet locations. It will need to track the location of a batch but not the individual location of each pallet.

New Zealand Sugar are seeking guidance and expertise from within the Best Practice Network to understand:

  • If anyone has experience with in-house warehouse systems linking into SAP?
  • What is the minimum level of complexity needed in order to be able to effectively maintain stock levels and track by batch?
  • What lessons could be shared with developing in-house systems?

We look forward to receiving this feedback and guidance and would welcome the opportunity to further discuss and connect with members of the Best Practice Network.

Your assistance is greatly appreciated.
