ANCA is a thriving business with over 1,000 employees and a world leading manufacturer of CNC grinding machines, motion controls and sheet metal solutions. While the global headquarters remain located in Melbourne, Australia; due to the niche market we service, we export 99% of our products with customers in over 45 countries and offices in the UK, Germany, China, Thailand, India, Japan, Brazil and the USA as well as a comprehensive network of representatives and agents worldwide.
ANCA are looking at reviewing their policies and procedures on distant work. Under 30.5 (c) (ii) of the Manufacturing and Associated Industries and Occupations Award, “after each 4 week period on distant work, an employee is entitled to be paid for a return fare reasonably incurred for personal travel between the locality and the employee’s usual residence”.
In the business, we have employees who are undertaking projects for us in Europe and Korea (quite distant) for periods of 9 weeks to 3 months. Under these circumstances it is not reasonable for them to fly back and forth every four weeks.
We are seeking feedback on the following:
- Have others in the Network encountered this situation? and
- How have they dealt with it?
- What approaches have you found to be most successful in addressing the needs of those travelling distant for work?
For example, pay out the value of the return flight, include it as part of an overall distant travel allowance, provide TIL to the value, etc.
With that in mind, we are seeking insights and recommendations from organisations within Best Practice Network, for innovative policies and procedures on Distant Work, that have proven successful in your organisations.
