Best Practice Network Member Request: Prysmian Group “Safety observer for live electrical work”

Dear Members,

Prysmian Group manufacturers medium and low voltage cables for the construction and infrastructure sectors, underground and submarine cables for power transmission and distribution along with fibre optic’s cabling for the telecommunications sector, producing thousands of Kilometres each year distributed to all locations across Australia and into New Zealand.

We are particularly interested in:

Asking for some related feedback and supporting information other business’s may have, in covering the need of utilising a trained Observer in Low Voltage Rescue / CPR being present when a licensed electrician is working on energised equipment.

As an example our electricians are undertaking “fault finding” with test equipment on energised equipment, such as fault finding on machine’s and on components within electrical panels. We do not replace or repair components in an energised state, area  and or circuits are de-energised / isolated beforehand.

We would like to understand:

  • What procedures and or policies other businesses have implemented within their business;
  • And how you are utilising an Observer in this instance?

With that in mind, we are seeking insights and recommendations from organisations within Best Practice Network on having a “Safety observer for live electrical work.”
