Dear Members,
Street Furniture Australia (SFA) designs and manufactures highly durable furniture for the public realm. The company uniquely runs both an R&D program and factory under one roof in Western Sydney, Australia. Since 1986 we have supplied to more than 30,000 places in Australia and around the globe.
Key Considerations:
- SFA wants to purchase, receipt, stock, consume and track our timber stocks in lineal metres instead of pieces/each, factoring in cut length (plus a percentage of off-cut wastage).
- Our timber comes in various lengths matching or exceeding our required lengths, based on supplier production.
- Currently, we categorise stock by length ranges (e.g., 1800-2099mm, 2100-2399mm).
Our concern is that this change will hinder our ability to forecast longer stock lengths with customer orders without physically measuring each piece. While specifying a minimum length to the supplier seems logical, constraints of natural material poses a challenge.
We are interested in hearing from other businesses within Best Practice Network that can offer an alternative solution and are able to share their feedback and experience.
If you can assist, please send your insights and feedback to: [email protected]
Thank you in advance.
